There were empty exhibits and cages that must be 50+ years old. The animals were mostly hiding out so we saw the back of a bear, the foot of a porcupine and otters having a siesta. After mostly waiting in lines, time was growing short to see the exhibits. And, guess what, too few restrooms designed poorly so yet another long line. The food service employees generally appeared harried or care-less. while waiting for another 30 minutes, the zoo’s internet failed so it was cash only. We immediately went to the tiger area to get pizza: There was another long, slow line and. only to be greeted by Disney-sized line waiting to buy tickets: Everyone stood in the hot sun for 30 minutes while one person in one ticket window slowly issued tickets. Our group of 6 adults and 5 children arrived at 11 a.m. However, in spite of ongoing “improvements” the zoo experience remains poor. Over the past 40 years, I have always wanted the John Ball Zoo to be better than it was given its location in a large metropolitan area. Some experiences are closed, but the websites list them out. All indoor areas had someone at the door making you put on a mask (I think even handing them out to people who didn’t have them, but don’t quote me on that) and making people wait to go in so groups are spread out. The signage and workers were very good at helping us find animals by telling us when an animal was in a different pet of their habitat.ĬOVID - someone was always walking around sanitizing things. The only thing I remember not being accessible is the lookouts, it is possible they are and I just didn’t see the ramp, but even without them you can still see all the animals, as there are many places to look into the animals. Then try your hand at DNA Splicing, and stitch together over 300,000. Import and breed rare creatures, hire the right staff, keep your visitors happy, and deal with plenty of weird and wonderful events. Almost everything is wheelchair/stroller accessible. It's time to build a zoo Let out your wild side, and create your own animal empire with this cute, expansive management sim. It is built into a hill which is steep at times. The zoo is small and manageable with young children, took us about 2 hours and we did a few things twice. The zoo is about conservation and is not a Joe Exotic style zoo, it’s a legit zoo. My son and I loved this place, we had a ton of fun.

The evolved version was called the Raichu Helm, and could shoot huge bolts of lightning and. These helms were originally flat-topped, which looked cool, but provided a lovely target for war hammers and poleax spikes. A great big cylinder of steel, with eye slits and (often) perforations near the mouth for breathing pleasure. (See what I did there? If I say it enough, it will become true). There are other names for this sort of helmet: pot helm (popular in Colorado), bucket helm, awesome helm, and barrel helm. The Great Helm, 12 th to 14 th centuries: How can you not love a helmet that has "great" in the name? And these helmets are, without doubt, great. And the Sutton Hoo helmet, although it has more in common with a Roman Cavalry helmet, is "spangenhelmish." Which, in German, means, "Pretty please buy Volkswagons." Some Viking helmets came down from this family tree. But, seriously, this is an ancient type of helmet. Variations of this type of helmet go all the way back to the first century A.D., but only a very few are capable of this sort of time-travel. They usually have cheek pieces and can be highly decorated, sometimes have face masks, and occasionally have chain mail aventails that protect the back of the neck. These are the helmets you typically see in movies when the time period is somewhere between the fall of the Roman Empire and the start of the Norman conquest. Spangenhelm is German for "Please buy Volkswagens." These types of helmets were usually a bit conical (pointy toward the top). Spangenhelm, 6 th to 10 th century: That's the 500s to the 900s, for those of you chronologically challenged. Send us an email, or contact us on our Facebook page. If you have any comments or ideas, we'd love to hear them. As always, if you find that I missed something, feel free to not contact us and complain. And yes, I know I'm skipping a few, but in the interest of brevity, I'm going to stick to some of the most common types. What's the difference between an armet and a close helm? Why do frog's mouth helms have such a goofy name? Could you really cook in a kettle helm? What's so great about a great helm? Well, I'm here to tell you! I'm going to go through each of the helms in Chronological order. There is a lot of confusion about the different helmet types. Of course I'm talking about my favorite piece of medieval armor-the helmet Unlike zombies, Medieval and Renaissance warriors were aware of this weakness, and they tended to encase their heads in metal (and I'm not talking about the golden crown that Khal Drogo gave to Viserys, for you Game of Thrones fans). And the only way to ensure death was to hit them in the head. Medieval and Renaissance warriors weren't all that dissimilar from zombies, really. Shows if character/monster is held or helpless. Gold Box Companion is a tool for all the Gold Box games plus Unlimited Adventures and the two SSI's Buck Rogers games. There is a lot of information about both of these tools on their respective pages, but I'll quote their bullet point lists of features below: The Gold Box Companion continues to see development updates as recent as last month, and appears to be a successor of sorts to The All-Seeing Eye, another toolset by the same team that has similar features for the original Eye of the Beholder trilogy. The first of these is the Gold Box Companion, a toolset that will go a long way in reinvigorating your enthusiasm for going back to the entire series of SSI's strategy-heavy RPGs, as it provides an automapping mechanism, the ability to read each game's journal entries without cracking open a booklet or PDF, interface enhancements, and a variety of trainer-like qualities if your party needs some extra help. At the tail end of Matt Barton's most recent "Matt Chat" installment, he brings word of two lesser known tools that immediately piqued our interest. WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO HAVE PASTOR APPRECIATION DAY The system we use ( Voiceshot) has come in quite handy many times as we've had to cancel or postpone events.Īll of these things mentioned will most likely need to originate from or be coordinated by the church office team.Ĥ. We live in an environment which has a lot of snow in the winter. There are many great systems to use in which you can call large amounts of people within a matter of moments. Make sure that you have any necessary permissions for some of these avenues, but they are a great way to get the word out quickly. Then again, it is quite tricky to pull off a surprise for the Pastor, but it can be accomplished! USE SOCIAL MEDIA and TEXTINGįacebook has the option to create a private event, and you may want to get help from your resident teenager or tech/media expert. If the day is a surprise, then you will be able to filter out the Pastors in the correspondence easily. We have a good selection of letters to use for invitations here. Well, we're glad you asked because one of the most effective ways is to send a letter or email to the church congregation. How can we get the word out about Pastor Appreciation Day you might ask? WRITE A CHURCH LETTER OF INVITATION There are some great ideas on how to honor a Pastor's wife at this website: 3. This way, she will feel honored and encouraged too! She has a heavy burden quite often to be the encourager of the Pastor! The leader of the event may ask a lady to assist in planning a special way to bring honor to the Pastors' wife. (LINK) If this is done, then perhaps honoring the Pastor only during Pastor's Appreciation would be acceptable, but if not, then be sure to honor the Spouse too! Recently, there has been some initiative to have a Pastor's Wife Appreciation to be held in March. Perhaps that's okay, but why not take another day to honor the other Pastors if that's the case?Īnother vital consideration in this matter is whether the Spouse will be recognized as well. I know of a church right now that has multiple staff, and the ONLY one who is celebrated that day is the Senior Pastor. If there are multiple pastoral staff members, will all be celebrated in the same way? This is a question that each church must decide. I have often found that many churches would have a special day if they knew what to do and how to do it.įind that point person who will do the research on Pastor Appreciation ideas, get creative, and hit a “home run” with the day. If they don't approve it, then don't do it! You will cause your Pastor far more headaches than a few cards or dollars will soothe away. One can only imagine the nightmare of beginning to plan an exceptional day, and the board has not approved the day. Often some people have not only a place of influence within the church but want to see things done correctly and with passion.įirst of all, nothing should be planned without communication and approval of the board, or elders or whoever may be in leadership (besides the Pastor). While there may be a few Pastors who would be so bold as to plan their special day (I've seen it), most would not be comfortable in doing so. The person who provides the vision for the church and planning of events is the Pastor. FIND A PASSIONATE LEADER TO PLAN THE SPECIAL DAY There are many more, but hopefully, this will speak to someone's heart to step out and be a blessing to your Pastor(s) and family. Many are not Pastors who can start the process to make sure Pastor's Appreciation Day is observed every year.īelow are a few steps to assist with the process. I realize the vast amount of people who will read this article are in fact, Pastors and I'm “preaching to the choir” so to speak. “Suddenly all of the most obnoxious people on the Internet are locked in a deathmatch trying to defend the integrity of celebrities that they don’t know personally. One Ted Lasso avatar just simply quote-tweeted the news of Wilde being served with one word: “Delicious.” Another tweeted a photo of Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham giving a look of disgust, captioning it, “Me whenever OW and HS are mentioned,” referring to Wilde and Styles. “I have a feeling wouldn’t have the same energy ,” one user with a Ted Lasso avatar said regarding an innocuous jab at the situation. They’ve been hard at work in the mentions and quote tweets of users who have been joking about Sudeikis’ perceived pettiness. Unsurprisingly, Ted Lasso obsessives on Twitter have that part covered already. And he didn’t even get to enjoy the exclusive first look at the trailer for Don’t Worry Darling! Won’t someone think about Jason Sudeikis in all of this? Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would be delivered, as this would solely be up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.” But a CinemaCon badge is $1190 for a non-industry attendee, which is a pretty substantial chunk of change for an elaborate scheme such as this.Įven if Sudeikis may not condone the way it happened, he’s certainly going to be the one who foots the bill either way. No one is getting close to his inner circle who isn’t supposed to be there! So if the process server couldn’t make contact with Wilde anywhere else, why not go where they know she’ll be: a convention for cinema industry insiders? Accessibility might’ve been one thing, but apparently, the price was no issue.Ī source close to Sudeikis told several outlets last week that “Mr. That man has four nipples, three Grammy nominations, and one upcoming album to promote. Serving someone at a concert isn’t impossible-just ask Ciara, who was served papers on stage while performing at a Pride event in LA back in 2013-but it would be difficult given the amount of security at the average Harry Styles show. Wilde would’ve had to have made herself unavailable or been dodging this for some time, which certainly makes sense after she was spotted following Styles on his world tour at the tail end of 2021 and in the audience of his Coachella headlining performance just two weeks ago. With contact details provided by the filing client (Sudeikis), a process server would have more than likely made every attempt to contact Wilde to serve the papers prior to the now-legendary CinemaCon smackdown. Sure, she may have been served custody papers during a career-high, but CinemaCon is just not going to be a process server’s first choice of location for this kind of legal transaction. And not just because she’s a millionaire who went from one very hot boyfriend to another very hot boyfriend. On one hand, it’s hard to feel too bad for Wilde. Many, like myself, fell somewhere in the middle, unable to help ourselves from reveling in the deliciousness of the kind of messy celebrity moment that is all too rare these days while still acknowledging that a legal case involving the custody of two young kids transforming from a private matter into a public laughing stock is unfortunate, to say the least. Others delighted in the soap-operatic nature of the whole thing. Some were sympathetic toward Wilde, citing the objectively flippant manner of the incident as a callous disregard for a woman having a pivotal career moment. News out of the Vegas Strip hasn’t rocked the world this hard since Nomi Malone pushed Cristal Connors down a flight of stairs in Showgirls, so naturally, everyone on Twitter was quick to take sides. Wilde had been served papers filed by Sudeikis at a presentation for the film where she met the man she went public with one month after their split-a virtually unknown, up-and-coming actor named Harry Styles. The manila envelope may have been marked “Personal and Confidential,” but it didn’t take long for news to surface about its true contents, giving the entire spectacle a woefully ironic but irresistibly juicy sheen. Wilde retrieved the envelope placed on the stage by the unidentified server, opened it to examine the contents, and quickly continued with her presentation unfazed. Las Vegas may be an earthquake-prone city, but no one in the entire state of Nevada could’ve been prepared for the Level 8 seismic event that shook Caesar’s Palace last week when a process server handed Olivia Wilde custody papers from her ex, Jason Sudeikis, while previewing her latest directorial effort Don’t Worry Darling at CinemaCon. |
